Inductatron RMA issues and Poor Quality Enclosure
Something that has been biting my ass for quite some time now has been the horrendously poor RMA rate (Over 50%) of my Inductatron electrostatic headphones energizer.
I have finally reached my limit with it and am putting deliveries on pause so I can redesign the enclosure.
Something I would like to address first and foremost: What have I learned, and what about everyone who has an old enclosure?
What have I learned: Well not much, it's more I have re-affirmed something I already knew but wasn't practicing properly: Send your products to yourself in the mail before going to prod. Previously I have only shipped singular units to myself to verify them, from now one things will shipped in batches of at least three.
What about everyone with an old enclosure: When I finish designing the new enclosure, anyone who has one of the old enclosures will be eligible to receive a New Free enclosure to install themselves at their own request. If anyone has to send their unit in for an RMA I will install it myself free of charge.
A few caveats with this: I will be prioritizing new customers, The new enclosure is going to feature number of 3d printed parts which take a long time to print, so this may lead to delays of 1 or 2 days. Because I am moving onto a new enclosure for the same product, I will also be dropping support for the old enclosure, as I no longer wish to deal with it.
Because I am dropping support for the old enclosure, it will be released to Public Domain for those who want to keep, or modify it (This will happen before September 9th)
The other caveat will only effect two of the previous buyers, I sold one energizer with Hammond 1760W transformers, and one with Lundahl LL2766 transformers. Because both of those were somewhat non-standard, and I don't have any more of those transformers to make accurate 3d models of, if either of those buyers want a new chassis, they will have to send their units in to be serviced, so I can make good enclosures for them.
Although this is unfortunate, with every disaster comes opportunity. The new enclosure is going to have a host of new exciting features! With the main ones being actual binding posts on the rear, accessible fuses, easier to swap transformers.
Because I am still in the early design stage, I would love any suggestions anyone has for the new enclosure. No matter how wild or crazy it may seem, anything is fair game at this juncture, and no one will know what you want better than you!
